We stayed in a beautiful KOA with lovely little cabins. They had pretty basic bunk beds in, so we needed to use our sleeping bags as there was no bedding.
As is traditional at these sorts of places, we had a little campfire thing going on, where we had marshmallows, and smores (marshmallows with Graham crackers- which over here are pronounced 'gram' crackers).
It was one of the Australian on the tour's birthday (her name is Lynette), so we'd organised a pinata for her to smash to smithereens. And then we all scrambled for ages in the dark, on the floor to collect the sweets. Gillian and Bessie did a particularly spectacular job (if we do say so ourselves!)
And just because we are so amazingly cool, and because large volumes of vodka and coke makes one do strange things, some of us decided to put parts of the pinata on our heads...
The next day we had a very short drive (only an hour or so!!) to the Carlsbad Caverns, which were absolutely insane. They were incredibly deep, and absolutely enormous- there are bats, little pools of waater, great big drops, stalagmites, and stalagtites lining the floors and ceilings. It was fascinating (and Alice was loving the geography side of things!!)
glad to hear the geography is being appreciated, I was going to ask earlier on but forgot :P representing, i feel.
